The Tragic Mass Shooting at Bite of Seattle
We are heartbroken by the tragic shooting at Seattle Center during the Bite of Seattle. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed, those who were injured, and everyone whose sense of safety was shattered by this violence. We are grateful to the first responders, medical professionals, and law enforcement officers who responded so quickly.
This tragedy has deeply affected our community, but it is also part of a larger public health crisis. On average, approximately 125 people die each day from firearm injuries in the United States. Behind every one of those deaths is a family, a circle of friends, and a community forever changed.
No single strategy can prevent every act of violence. But education must be part of the solution. Just as we teach young people about traffic safety, water safety, and overdose prevention, we should also equip them with the knowledge and skills to recognize risk, make safe choices, and help prevent firearm injuries.
At Ceasefire Northwest, we remain committed to providing nonpartisan, evidence-informed firearm injury prevention education for young people across Washington. We honor those affected by continuing the work of prevention.
Our community deserves to gather, celebrate, and live without fear.
